Author's foreword says "this book aims at answering qauestions about wild animals that are likely to come up in ordinary reading, conversation and wondering -- and in the Zoo. Indeed it started out to be a Guide to the animals in N.Y.'s great Bronx Zoo." Discusses more than 2100 mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Table of contents provides a guide to all the creatures according to their categories -- flesh eaters, mans' relatives, odd-toed hoofed mammals, and so forth. Many full page color plates; illustrations are found on almost every page. Author was curator of publications for the New York Zoological Society.
